Open MS Excel » Click on Office Button » Click on Excel Option » Click on Formulas » Uncheck R1C1 Reference Style Box. By this method to can change the excel column heads to ABC from 123.

Change the font / size of row and column headings in Excel

When you use the Excel workbook, have you ever tried to change the font or size of row and column headings to make the headings bigger or more beautiful as following screenshots shown? In fact, Excel provides some tricks for you to solve this task.

  1. To change the column headings to letters, select Preferences. Under the Excel menu. When the Excel Preferences window appears, click on the General option under Authoring. When the General window appears, uncheck the option called ' Use R1C1 reference style ' and click on the OK button.
  2. The header font size should be larger than the other content of the data. The header field background color should be other than white color. So that it should be properly visible in the data. Make the outline border of the heading field. There are a lot of border styles. For border style, Go to Font section and click on an icon as per below.
  3. Click the 'Header/Footer' tab. Click the 'Different first page' check box so there is a check mark in the box. Once you've turned on the 'Different first page' option, you can customize the header for the first page of the spreadsheet and the header for the rest of the pages. Click 'Custom Header'.

Changing Heading Style In Excel For Mac Shortcut

With the Styles feature, you can change the font and size of the row and column headings to your desired.

1. Activate the workbook that you want to change its row and column headings font and size.

2. Go to click Home tab, and in the Styles group, right click Normal, and choose Modify from the context menu to open the Style dialog, or you can also open this dialog by pressing Alt + '(single quote) keys on the keyboard.

3. In the Style dialog box, click Format button, see screenshot:

4. And in the popped out Format Cells dialog box, choose the font, styles and size as you like under Font tab, see screenshot:

5. Then click OK > OK to close the dialogs, and the font and size of your row and column headings have been changed.

In Excel, you can also apply the Fonts feature under Page Layout to change only the font of the row and column headings.
